Capitani di Giustizia. Marsala. 1550/1650. Informazioni

Desideravo chiedervi se foste a conoscenza dell’esistenza di un elenco dei capitani di giustizia di Marsala negli anni tra il 1550 e il 1650.

Inoltre, provato a spulciare l’indice dei documenti dell’archivio di stato di Palermo senza capire dove potrei rivolgere l’attenzione per estrarre le nomine di tali capitani (considerando che Marsala era città regia).

sono riuscito a identificare i Capitani di Giustizia di Marsala di interesse, rispettivamente per gli anni 1594/1595 e 1620/1621.

Essendo Marsala Città Demaniale, vorrei riuscire a reperire l'atto di nomina regia associato all'officio in questione o un elenco proveniente da un archivio di stato (palermo o marsala).

Tuttavia, essendo neofita sulla ricerca archivistica, desidererei chiedere a voi gentili forumisti se:
- sapete in quale fondo dovrei guardare (secrezia, real patrimonio, viceré etc) o
- qualcuno di voi ha già incidentalmente dato un'occhiata a questi archivi.

purtroppo la ricerca per corrispondenza all'archivio di palermo (e immagino per similarità anche quello di marsala) per quanto efficiente possa essere, necessita di un'indicazione precisa sul fondo da ricercare, e io sinceramente non sono riuscito a capirlo.

I’ve asked my archivist friend in Palermo. As she understands, it was the civic councils that elected the captain of arms of their cities. While in Palermo can be found the Protonotar fund of the kingdom, containing the main officer appointments. She’s unaware if the captains are also included in the Protonotar funds but she will examine further, and hopefully we can report back with more news. I’m interested in it too!

As I'm aware, the Capitani di Giustizia could have been chosen not only from the patrizi from that city, but also picked from abroad, amongst other nobles or Utriusque Iure Doctor.
This fact has been already confirmed by the Archivio di Stato, where no members with that surname and name have been found on the riveli archive of Marsala. and also from an interesting document I found in my hometown, where there was an election for the Giurati, and the nobles where mostly from Messina and Palermo.

my guess is that those 2 Captain of Justice, father and son, came from palermo, where that surname was well established, along with another city in the Messina area.

Let's wait for your friend. I'm sure we will find another breakthrough.
