Alcuni recenti stemmi approvati dal College of Arms. Come sempre trovo l'araldica inglese capace di mantenere la tradizione al passo con i tempi, davvero bravi.

The British Olympic Association and The British Paralympic Association: on the petition of Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, President of The British Olympic Association, and His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex, Patron of The British Paralympic Association, a Coat of Arms has been established for the use of the two associations in connection with the Summer, Winter and Youth Olympic Games, and the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games. The grant was made by Letters Patent of Garter, Clarenceux and Norroy and Ulster Kings of Arms dated 27 April 2016, to a specially established company 2016 Crest Holding Limited, for the use of The British Olympic Association and The British Paralympic Association. College reference: Grants 179/203. The Arms are illustrated here and are blazoned:

Arms: Quarterly Gules and Azure two Leeks in pale that in base reversed and conjoined at the fess point to two Thistles in fess two Roses in bend and two Flax Flowers in bend sinister all with heads outwards and slipped and leaved Or the whole enfiling four Links of Chain interlaced in a square Argent.

Crest: on a Helm with a Wreath Argent, Gules and Azure: Within a Coronet comprising a Rim set with six Batons erect Or between Roundels alternately of Silver Gold and Bronze proper a Lion statant guardant Gules crowned with a Laurel Wreath the dexter forepaw raised and holding a Torch enflamed Or.

Supporters: On either side a Lion guardant that on the dexter Azure that on the sinister Gules each crowned with a Laurel Wreath and holding in the exterior forepaw a Torch enflamed Or both upon a Compartment comprising a Grassy Mount Vert.

He is stated to be the son of George William Hester, by Jocelyn Diana his wife who was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the daughter of James Elmer Dudley. Honorary Arms and Crest. Garter, Clarenceux and Norroy and Ulster Kings of Arms. 28/1/2016. College reference: Grants 179/139.

Arms of Lawrence Anthony HoltA grant of Arms, Crest and Badge was made to Lawrence Anthony HOLT of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, by Letters Patent of Garter and Clarenceux Kings of Arms dated 1 March 2016. College reference: Grants 179/165. The Arms (illustrated left) are blazoned:

Arms: Per saltire Vert and Gules four Broom flowers in saltire slips inwards Or.

Crest: Upon a Helm with a Wreath Or and Vert In front of a Cogwheel Gules a Claw Hammer bendwise surmounting a Chisel bendwise sinister Or the handles in base Vert.

Badge: A Loving Cup Or each handle enfiled by a Broom Branch erect Vert flowered Or.

O'NEILL OF GATLEY, Terence James (O'Neill), Baron, of Gatley, Greater Manchester. Arms, Crest and Supporters. Garter King of Arms. 8/9/2015. College reference: Grants 179/145.

Arms of Alan PedderA grant of Arms, Crest and Badge was made to Alan PEDDER of Wimbledon in the London Borough of Merton, CBE, by Letters Patent of Garter and Clarenceux Kings of Arms dated 20 May 2016. College reference: Grants 179/234. The Arms, illustrated right, are blazoned:

Arms: Or between two Bendlets wavy Azure four Roses in bend alternately Argent and Gules all barbed and seeded proper and each enclosed within a Steel Gear-wheel also proper.

Crest: On a Helm with a Wreath Or and Azure A demi Cheetah proper holding in the dexter paw a Spanner bendwise sinister and in the sinister paw a line pendant therefrom a Plumb Bob Azure.

Badge: A Rose Argent barbed and seeded proper enclosed within a Steel Gear-wheel all environed by two Sprigs of Juniper leaved and fructed the stalks crossed in saltire in base also proper.

Il più bello ritengo sia l'ultimo postato. Notare l'insegna dell'Order of British Empire posta nella punta dello scudo.

De gustibus.
Al College of Arms hanno dei disegnatori araldici davvero bravi, su questo non si discute.
Ma temo che i loro punti di forza finiscano lì.
Da anni propongono soluzioni spesso astruse, che sono più dei rompicapi araldici onanisticamente fini a sé stessi, e oltretutto mal risolti: le blasonature apparentemente semplici sono in realtà distantissime dal blasonare-ciò-che-si-vede. Lungi da me il sostenere la blasonatura pedante... ma sfido chiunque a ricostruire il vero sembiante di questi stemmi partendo dalla sola descrizione blasonica.

PS: nell'ultimo stemma il coronet da barone é andato in cavalleria?
O é stato omesso appositamente in quanto non strettamente connesso alla concessione dello stemma? [hmm.gif]

Riguardo le blasonature, forse hai ragione, ma non essendo io io così "linguista", posso non notare queste sfumature.
Riguardo invece gli stemmi, a me piacciono alle volte proprio quei guizzi originali che sí, forse sono complicati e enigmatici, ma al tempo stesso li considero testimonianza della vitalità dell'araldica inglese che però riesce a mantenere un forte legame con la tradizione.
Altre volte invece la loro semplicità è tratto distintivo. Come anche l'uso di elementi più moderni o meno usati in passato , ma inseriti in forme e posizioni assolutamente tradizionali.
Insomma, a me piace :)
